  1. The setting for "I'll Be There" takes place in the present. Some of the characters travel a lot, so I can't really discuss a particular place in the story. The setting might be important because Sam Smith, one of the main characters, travels around a lot and he has to keep a low profile because his dad is a thief. The main characters are Sam Smith, Emily Bell, Riddle Smith, Clarence Border, and Bobby Ellis. Sam Smith is a teenage boy who tries to take care of his little brother, tries to keep a low profile, and falls in love with Emily Bell after she sang a mediocre solo. Emily Bell is a teenage girl with a good life, she's forced to sing a solo in church even though she can't sing, and she falls in love with Sam. Riddle Smith is Sam Smith's brother. He's slightly fearful, but he's also a deep thinker. Clarence is the father of Sam and Riddle. He's an abusive liar and a thief. Bobby Ellis is the "popular" guy in school. He's obsessed with Emily and he's suspicious of Sam. -Ariel T.

  2. Internal conflict is the internal struggle a character faces. External conflict is an external struggle a character faces. In the story, Emily faced internal conflict. When she was hanging out with Bobby, she felt uncomfortable because she really liked Sam. I predict that Emily will get Bobby to leave her alone. The author's tone was serious and a bit somber during the conflict. -Ariel T.

  5. I'll be there was a refreshing book, I enjoyed the plot and stayed up late just to finish it. this is more than just a love story, while Sam and Emily are in love, Sam also makes sacrifices for Riddle, though not always. This book brings light to the importance of honesty, and love. I enjoyed it and feel it's a splendid recommendation.
