blog #1 day 1 of this book took place in Kaunas, Lithuania. The setting in this novel is important because it let us know as time go by where they are at. I also know that this book is around a time when it was hot. The main character in this story is Lina. Lina is very important this book because she is the one who is telling the story. lina is a girl who is either 16 or 17, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Another main character in this book is Jonas. Jonas is the little brother of Lina, Jonas is about 11 or 12.he had neatly comb blond hair with blue eye. He wore a school uniform with a little tie. another main character in this book is there mom. I haven't yet figured out her name, but i do know also they she had blonde hair and blue eyes too.
blog #2 keiana hughes this book so far is very interesting. i think it is very sad how the NKVD is treating these humans .NVKVD didn't even care about a new born baby that a women just had. They didn't care that the baby was sick and it couldn't eat because something was wrong with its throat. My reaction to that was very angry and upset because if you don't care about a new born baby that was just born then you don't have a heart at all.
blog #4 keiana hughes As I got farther in this book, things started to get better. The NVKD allowed them to finally shower and put new clothes on. They also gave them some where more comfortable to sleep , instead of being stuck in a truck with so many people you can barley move.I also think that they have a good chance of surviving because Lina's mom knows Russian , which can help them speak to the guards that don't know Lithuanians.
blog#5 keiana hughes yes i was satisfied with the ending. i think this book was chosen for Gateway book because it was a one person story that was an eye opener to different situations that happened during the holocaust. It also told us the places that where the event happened.
blog #6 keiana hughes one main key point i will like to go over from the book is the way the people got treated. These humans were literally treated like animals. On the car that they where traveled inside said "prisoner and prostitute". so basically who ever saw the truck drive pass them, thought it was prisoner and prostitute in there. I honestly think that they got treated way worse than prisoners. Prisoners actually get fed and bath properly at all times.
Lina takes us through her struggle with humanity, cruelty, and indifference, and I am forever changed. This book was thoroughly tar jerking one second, and rage inducing the next. It's a relief from the classic holocaust books, and it reveals that suffering is in many different places, and situations, and it will never end. I highly recommend this if you would like a new perspective on humanity, and of hope. I was happy with the ending, it tied up all lose ends, and it brought the story to a quiet close. A well written book, and highly recommended.
